Religion, like elsewhere in Ireland, has played a big part of life in the Glen. Apart from The Church of the Immaculate Conception, (Glenshesk Chapel), there is much evidence of how religion has shaped Glenshesk over the centuries. The Glen is actually dovetailed with Bonamargy Abbey at one end, and Ardagh, where the monks lived, at the other. A great photo taken in the 1960’s, of Glenshesk children who have just made their First Communion. Sadly, a few years later this sacrament was moved to Ballycastle, possibly when Glenshesk School closed in 1969.
